InFoal Recipient Mares
Recipient mares must be palpated daily to record ovulations. It is essential for the donor mare to be synchronized with the recipient that will receive her embryo. All the transfers we do now are ICSI embryos – either fresh from the incubator or frozen/thawed. We own about 1000 recipient mares now and do over 600 transfers each year. Mares are kept on progesterone till 120 days of pregnancy. Once they are 45 days pregnant, we release them to the owners of the embryo and send the progesterone home with them. We insure the pregnancies until 45 days – no charge for the recipient, board or progesterone if the pregnancy fails before 45 days.
